Yew Upright Hicksi Hedge

Hicksi is a cross of the English Yew and the Japanese Yew. Noted for combining the ornamental excellence of English Yews with the winter hardiness of Japanese Yews. Hicksi has the most columnal growth habit of any yew. At 20 years old it can reach 20' tall by 6-10' wide. Generally sheared to maintain a tall privacy hedge at 8-12' tall. No serious insect or disease problems, so no sprays required. Most widely used as a "can't see through it" privacy hedge. Tolerate heavy shade and drought. Doesn't do well in wet, soggy areas. Cold hardy Zones 4-7.
